A Conversation with Tanner

It was my turn to put Tanner to bed and listen to his prayers. I love listening to him pray, but usually his prayer is very short, not tonight. This is the gist of it: Dear Heavenly Father thank you for Easter, thank you for Tanner to have fun, please help the rain and tornado to go away, please help the grass to grow and not the weeds, please help the rain to stop and please help the rain to go away so the water doesn't flood our house. We've had a lot of thunderstorms and tornado warnings the past couple of days. Then he asked me to tell him a story about exploring a cave as a family, and then he asked why the earth turns. I explained again about night and day and the sun-this is one of his favorite topics of conversation. Then he asked about the melted rock in the middle of the Earth and why Volcanos had melted rock come out of them. I explained a little about pressure and how that made volcanos erupt. Tanner then asked me how heavy islands were.  I feel like I need a degree in physical science just to talk to my 4 year old, or at least a refresher course in everything I have ever learned. These science questions do console me when he claims that he wants to be a monster truck driver and a fireman. I think scientists have much longer life expectancies.

I started writing this and I heard him crying. I went up to check on him and he said "Mommy I can't take care of myself and the lightning and thunder are scaring me." And then Jason started crying, so I asked Tanner to be patient while I went and took care of Jason, and I would come back and hang out with my computer on his bottom bunk. So I am typing this on the bottom bunk of his bed. Just another night in paradise. :)
